The sixth day of my Cuban tour, my tour mates and I leave the beautiful Ocean del Mar in Cayo Santa Maria and make our way to Santa Clara.
While in Santa Clara, we toured the city. The city tour included many locations, but some of my favorite part of the tour included a ride in a horse draw cart, a visit to Parque Vidal, a peak inside the Teatro La Caridad, a statute of Che Guevara holding a small child, and a visit to the Tren Blindado, the location of the last battle of the Cuban Revolution.
After listening to a wonderful trove performance, we enjoyed a traditional Cuban lunch at Saborearte.
Our next stop was a visit to the Che Guevara Mausoleum and Memorial. This stop was a sobering, yet reverent site. This memorial clearing shows how dedicated and appreciative the Cuban people were to Che’s contributions to their revolution.
After the memorial, we continued on to Sancti Spiritus, which is on the Caribbean side of Cuba. We checked into our hotel, Hotel Plaza and then a group of us went on a self-directed city tour and attended a mass at sancti spiritus and mass at Iglesia Parroquial Mayor del Espiritu Santo.
After mass, we enjoyed dinner at hotel before retiring for the evening.
The view from the hotel balcony, overlooking Parque Serafin Sanchez at sunset, was etherial.
